Descripción corta
Huesca is located in a strategic transition area where the plains of La Hoya meet the first elevations of the Pre-Pyrenees
Descripción larga
Huesca is located in the Ebro depression, within the natural region known as La Hoya de Huesca. Geographically, it acts as a transition step between the arid southern lands and the imposing peaks of the Pyrenees. To the north, the city is framed by the Sierra de Guara and Mount Gratal, which form an impressive natural barrier and define its skyline.
The climate is continental Mediterranean: winters are cold, with frequent frosts and the famous persistent “boira” (fog), while summers are short, extremely hot and dry. The Isuela River flows through the city, a modest but historically essential watercourse for irrigating the local orchards.
The landscape surrounding Huesca presents a striking contrast, ranging from cereal and almond fields across the plains to limestone canyons and unique geological formations such as Salto de Roldán, located just a few kilometres away. This strategic location makes Huesca a key logistical gateway to the Pyrenean valleys and an area of remarkable biodiversity.
