Descripción corta
A jewel of 12th-century Aragonese Romanesque architecture and royal pantheon of the Kings of Aragon Alfonso I the Battler and Ramiro II the Monk
Descripción larga
The medieval monastery of San Pedro el Viejo is one of the most important examples of Aragonese Romanesque architecture and was declared a national monument in 1885. The main portal, located on the northern side, features three archivolts and a tympanum with a chrismon. The church consists of three naves divided into five sections, covered by barrel vaults supported by transverse arches and ending in semicircular apses. The tower, completed at the end of the 13th century, has a hexagonal floor plan.

One of the highlights of the monastic complex is its beautiful cloister, considered one of the masterpieces of medieval Aragonese and Hispanic art. In the Royal Pantheon, located in the Chapel of Saint Bartholomew, lie the remains of the Aragonese kings Alfonso I the Battler and Ramiro II the Monk, central figure in the legend of the Bell of Huesca.
