Descripción larga
Huesca Cathedral was built following the models of French Gothic style between the 13th and 16th centuries. On the exterior, its two construction phases are separated by a wooden eave, an uncommon feature in the city’s religious buildings. The main portal stands out for its elegance, incorporating seven pointed archivolts with figures carved in sandstone, crowned by a gable with an upper rose window.
Inside, special attention should be given to the beautiful alabaster altarpiece decorating the High Altar, created by the Valencian sculptor Damián Forment between 1520 and 1534. The Diocesan Museum, located next to the Cathedral, offers visitors a varied collection of sacred art, including Romanesque carvings and paintings representative of Linear Gothic and Hispano-Flemish influence. Particularly noteworthy is the alabaster altarpiece from the Castle of Montearagón, created by the artist Gil de Morlanes the Elder.
